Myrtle Beach: Lucas Glover of Greenville scored a record fourteen-under-par 266 to win the 67^th Annual South Carolina Golf Association Amateur Championship. The 72 hole Championship was played on the par 70 Heathland Course at the Legends Resort, August 6-9.

Glover was very pleased with the win. He becomes only the second player to win both the SCGA Junior and the SCGA Amateur Titles. Glover was a little choked up as he accepted the trophy. He said, "Thursday was my grandfather's birthday... I think it is a pretty good present."

Glover posted rounds of 68, 66, 66 and 66. The Clemson player erased the old tournament of eleven-under-par. The previous record was set by his coach, Larry Penley back in 1987 at the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach. Glover was very aware of the record and wanted to beat it. He smiled and said, "Don't think I won't remind him of it from time-to-time."

Glover started and finished the day with a three strokes in front of D.J. Trahan of Inman. Although he played a bogey free round, Glover's win was not that easy. His lead quickly dwindled down to one stroke when Trahan, a rising high school senior, birdied the first two holes.

Unfortunately for Trahan, that was as close as he would get. Bogies on holes four and six nullified the charge. Trahan eventually posted 66 but it only equalled Glovers final round. Trahan said, "It was great golf. How can I be unhappy with 66? I would have to have shot 63 to catch him..."
