One Day events were originally set to provide members of SCGA Member Clubs the opportunity to travel with their friends and regular golf partners to other member clubs. This gave the players a chance to "take their games on the road" against players from all around the state. Senior events began in the late seventies and both types of tournaments have continued to flourish.

In order to participate in these events, players must be current members of the SCGA (hold a current handicap card.) For senior events the player must be 55 years of age by the date of the event. Otherwise, men women and juniors may play, regardless of handicap.

The procedure for participating is very simple:

* Players call the club beginning ten days in advance (some events will fill up more quickly than others.)

* Three names are needed to reserve a tee time. Players with less than three may not make a time, but may show up on the day of the event as fill-ins for groups that may have lost players.

* Players must pay the club for the appropriate cart fee and register with our on site Director. There is a $ 10.00 entry fee that is paid to the Director. Players must present a current (less than 45 days old) handicap card at the time of registration.

* Play is on an individual basis with mostly net scores being used to determine winners. There are overall winners, as well as flight winners. Regular events are flighted by handicap, while senior events are flighted by age.

* Preferred lies are played in the fairway, but each player must putt out and the 14 club limit is adhered to. Each player must sign the card for it to be considered properly returned to The Committee.

* Prizes are gift certificates. Winners may pick them up after all scores have been returned, or the certificates will be mailed to the player’s home club.

I hope this answers your questions about our one day events. I look forward to having you play and enjoy seeing the other golf courses across South Carolina. Should you have any further questions, you may call me at 803-732-9311 or e-mail me at ppendergrass@scgolf.org.
