One Day Season Gets Underway at Kiawah's Oak Point.

Johns Island, SC - Turnout was small for the first One Day Event of the year in the low country, but those who decided to play had a great time and great competition. Under overcast skies and the temperature hovering just over 45, the competitors posted some terrific scores on the always difficult Clyde Johnston designed layout.

A single stroke separated the winners for Overall Low Gross.  Cory Martin, Arcadian Shores-Myrtle Beach, turned in a 2-over-par, 74 to take medalist honors.  Jim Post and Paul Turner, both from Woodlands in Columbia, shot 75 to finish one stroke back of Martin.

Austin Parks, a 14-year old  from Charleston Country Club fired a 4-over-par, 76 (net 68), to win first in the Class 'A' competition and also capture the Low Net round for the tournament.  He edged out Michael Whitaker of Greenville in a scorecard playoff .  Whitaker took first place in Class "B".

Post, knocked out of the Gross by Martin was able to take advantage of the net race in Class "A" as his handicap got him back to just under the course rating and a second place finish.  Richard Reiger, of Kiawah, could only get to two over the course rating with his handicap (72), but it was enough to hold onto second in Class "B" and get his first "in the money (certificate)" finish in an SCGA event.
