Two Brothers Battle For Title

Josh Campbell and his brother Neil, Saluda Valley members, put on a back nine show at Saluda Valley in the SCGA One Day Sunday, March 17. Both players had 69 for the day, but Josh had a back nine 32 to win the playoff and low gross in the field.

Neil had a three shot lead at the turn, and then birdied 10, eagled 11, and through 12, had a four-shot lead. Josh, who also eagled 11, then birdied 13, pitched in from fifteen yards out for eagle on the par four 14th, and finished with 32. Neil, meanwhile, bogied 13, 15, and 16, and had to make birdie at 18 for his 69.

Josh has a strong local golf reputation, having once shot 62 at Saluda Valley three times in a two-week period. He finished fourth in the SC Open several years' back, at Seabrook, including a record 64 in one round. He went to USC, but was not on the golf team.

Henry Ingle, a senior from Rolling "S", was low net in the field with 84-19=65. This gave him first place in the 17 and over handicap group. Mark Rhodes, Saluda Valley, led the 0-7 group with 74-5=69. Robert Sprouse from Rolling "S" was first in the 8-11 group with 78-11=67, and Talmadge Davis led the 12-16 group with 80-12=68.
