Blankenburg Wins in Scorecard Playoff

Four players tied for low gross, each with 73, August 21st in the SCGA Senior One-Day at Hunter's Creek in Greenwood. Jeff Blankenburg from Pebble Creek broke out of the logjam, with a tiebreaker 35 on the back nine. This was Blankenburg's second Senior One-Day win this summer. A.T. Mack (no one gave him a full name when he was born), from Cedar Creek; Randy Clarke, Aiken; and Gene Adkins, Fort Mill, were the others tying for the top spot.

Barry Mitchell, Three Pines, nailed down unusual attention, when he backed up to the scorer's table to hand in a net 59! After the adjustment to maximum four-under course rating 63, he still came out the low-net winner in the age 65-69 group. Barry's playing partner, Joe Frye, also from Three Pines, described Barry, who had 16 strokes, as "getting shakier" as the round progressed, due to playing in a manner he had never experienced. After the tenth hole Mitchell was two-under, but dropped back to finish with a gross 75.
Frye also shot 75, with a nine handicap, to win low net in the 70 and over division.

Oran Sprouse, from Rolling S, won low net in the 55-59 class, shooting 74-8=66. Randy Clarke was the net winner in 60-64, with 73-9=74.
