Finals Are Set

The teams of Chip Whitt – Walter Todd and Yancey Johnson – Austin Page will go head to head in the final of the 2008 SCGA Four Ball Championship.

Greenwood CC member Chip Whitt and five time former four ball winner Walter Todd made quick work of their morning match. The Whitt and Todd team capped off a 5&4 win over Chuck Bland
and Cope Sanders with a birdie by Todd on the par three 14th hole. In the afternoon, a birdie by Whitt on the second back nine par three, the 16th, ended their match 3&2 over College of Charleston teammates, Harrison Moore and Tim Tang.

The second finalist team, Yancey Johnson and Austin Page, needed a few more holes to take care of business. In their first match of the day, a birdie on the 18th hole defeated the team of Ben Lown and Jeff Pope. In their semi-final match, a Johnson chip in eagle on the last hole dashed the hopes of the Francis Marion and Furman golf coach team of Mark Gaynor and Todd Satterfield.

The eighteen hole final will be the first for Austin Page and Yancey Johnson. Chip Whitt and Walter Todd lost their only other final match together in 2006 at The Windermere Club to Paul Butler and Ben Karns 2&1.

The 2008 SCGA Four Ball Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 45th Annual event is being played on the 6,762 yard, par 72 golf course at Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood. The Four Ball Championship began with a field of 72 teams battling for 32 qualifying positions for the Match Play portion of the event. The finals will begin at 8.00 on Sunday off o f #1 tee.
