Medalists Are Eliminated

In their first match of the day, Medalist Josh and Neil Campbell were eliminated 2&1 by the 32nd seeded team of Josh Janis and Frank Williams. Janis and Williams needed a one hole playoff the day before just to make it to match play, but once there they took care of business sending the Campbell brothers home.

In other morning matches Max Fain and Mike Gravley won by a 4&3 margin over David Connor and Michael Moseley while the 3rd seeded team of Josh Gallman and Michael Lawrence needed two extra holes to advance to the afternoon. The only other extra hole match was won by Josh Clark and Blake Williamson on the first hole, #10, after Clark almost knocked his second shot in the hole.

The afternoon matches were highlighted by extra holes. Four of the eight matches went to extra holes with the Culler – Lightsey and Belair – Tinsley match going the longest. It took 23 holes for Belair and Tinsley to claim the victory and move on to the semi-finals. Local Greenwood member Chip Whitt and his partner Walter Todd needed 22 holes to defeat Josh Clark and Blake Williamson.

The 2008 SCGA Four Ball Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 45th Annual event is being played on the 6,762 yard, par 72 golf course at Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood. The Four Ball Championship began with a field of 72 teams battling for 32 qualifying positions for the Match Play portion of the event. The Semi-finals will begin at 8.00 on Saturday off o f #1 tee.
