Burgess & Hammersla Take First Round Lead
Jimmy Burgess and Bob Hammersla hold a three shot lead after a first round score
of nine under par 63 in the SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship at Wachesaw
Plantation. Stew Butler and Tim McBride are in second place with a score of 66.
The leaders, from Kingstree and Greenville, used a nine hole stretch run between
holes four and twelve where they combined for six birdies and an eagle to take
command. Burgess’s eagle came from the fairway on the par four 11th hole. After
a run of pars, the team finished with a Hammersla birdie on last hole.
Leading the First Flight are eight teams tied at one under par 71. Four teams
are a top the Second Flight at 74. The final round will be played on Wednesday
beginning at 8:00 a.m.
The 2008 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship is being played on the par 72 –
6,578 yard Wachesaw Plantation course in Murrells Inlet, S.C. The field consists
of 64 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes.
The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted
annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
