Van Ooteghem Jumps to the Lead

With a second consecutive score of two under par 70 and a two day total of 140, Seneca’s Jim Van Ooteghem holds a two shot lead over Johnny Dennis heading into the final round of the SCGA Senior Championship.

Van Ooteghem shot nines of 37 – 33 which included four birdies and two bogies. The highlight of the four birdies came from a chip in on the par four 14th hole. The Cross Creek Plantation member’s only slip on the day came via two three putts on both par fives on the front side.

First round leader Johnny Dennis shot a second round score of one over par 73 for a two day total of 142 and stands only two back of the lead. Gary Shimmin of Okatie is in third at 144. The low round of the day and the tournament came from Joe Vignati with a score of 68.

62 players made the cut at 161 and will play the final round on Thursday starting at 8.00 a.m. and teeing off both the 1st and 10th tee.

The 2008 SCGA Senior Championship is being played on the par 72 - 6,399 yard Chanticleer course at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, SC. The field consists of 125 players over the age of 55 and was cut to the low 60 and ties after the first two days of play. The Senior Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 50th year of existence.
