Two Tied for Lead

Florence’s John Orr and Greenville’s Heyward Sullivan sit atop the leader board after both players shot a two over par 72 in the first round of the SCGA’s Super Senior Championship.

The 67 year old Orr and 70 year old Sullivan started on different sides and both played better on their opening nines. Orr began on #10 and after a first hole bogey got things on track making three birdies and one more bogey for a front nine 34. A bogey on his 11th hole along with two bogies on the final two holes left the Florence C.C. member at 38 and two over for the day. Sullivan, a member at Greenville C.C., made all 4’s on his front nine except for the par three 8th where he made par for a beginning 35. After three bogies and a birdie on the back nine, Sullivan was left tied for the lead at 72.

Defending Champion, Rick Thompson, shot a seven over par round of 77. The round of the day may have come from Chuck Ziegler who at the age of 77 shot a score of four over par 74. 

The 2nd Annual SCGA Super Senior Championship is being played on the par 70 – 5,800 yard Sunset Country Club in Sumter, S.C. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The field consists of 60 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The Super Senior Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
