Crout and Liebler Claim Second Senior Better Ball Trophy

Heading into the final round of the 48th Annual SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship, a three-way tie atop the leaderboard followed by a plethora of teams within striking distance meant that whoever would claim the title to the 2021 edition of the Senior Better Ball Championship needed a strong and consistent final round to complete the task. The 2018 SCGA Senior Better Ball Champion Team of Rick Crout (Mt. Pleasant) and Steve Liebler (Irmo) rose to the occasion by compiling a two-under par final round of 70 and a tournament total of six under par 138 to lead their way to victory. Finishing in second place was the team of Tim Eich (Columbia) and David Collins (Columbia) after a final round score of 70 and tournament total of 141.  

In the First Flight, Duff Wagner (Taylors) and Holley Wallace (Columbia) claimed top honors with a tournament total of three under par 141.  Jimmy Mantooth (Greenville) and Kyle Turner (Greenville) were victorious in the second flight with a tournament total of even par 144. The Third Flight was won by Heung Kim (Columbia) and Jimmy Martin (Columbia) after a final round score of 70 and tournament total of 147.

The field was split into four flights for Sunday’s final round based on first round scores.

The 2021 SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship was played at the par 72 – 6,369 yard Santee Cooper Country Club. The field consisted of 49 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Better Ball Championship is in its 48th year of existence.
