Amateurs Bring Home the Cup
With some stellar play and good partnerships, the SCGA Amateurs managed to win the 2012 version of the Palmetto Cup. Playing a modified alternate shot format in the final round, the amateurs won 6 of the 9 matches played to finish with a 13 and 5 victory.
The annual battle between the state's top amateur golfers and the top SC PGA Chapter Pros, the Palmetto Cup Matches are in their 31st year of existence. The 2012 event was contested at the historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC. To date there have been 30 Palmetto Cup Matches – this year’s SCGA victory proved to be the ninth straight for the amateurs and now give the amateurs a 16-13-1 edge in the series. In 1997, the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.
