Understanding Your Handicap
Depending on your gender and which tees you play from, each player's Handicap Index converts to a specific handicap for that particular course. A player's Handicap Index is formulated using differentials in his or her scores versus the course and slope ratings of the courses that he or she has played. A player can obtain a USGA Handicap Index after posting five scores, but a truer value comes when a player posts 20 scores, of which the best 10 are calculated to figure the Handicap Index. This index demonstrates what a golfer would shoot on his/her best day.
