40 Plus Events - In an effort to offer a higher level of competition for all players, the SCGA has introduced a series of One Day events called the 40 Plus Series. True to its name, these events are for the "Baby Boomer" generation, players between the ages of 40 and 54. When space is available, senior players are welcome to participate. 40 Plus events are championships conducted as one day tournaments and are generally played on Mondays. Entry fees include cart, lunch, and gross and net prizes. *Entries for our Championships and 40 Plus events are now accepted online. Applications for these events may also be found at the SCGA office, or at our web site forty five to sixty days prior to the tournament. One Day Events - The very popular One Day handicap events were started in 1964 and have provided a way of playing a variety of courses at a minimal cost. In a move designed to create more golf activity for the senior population, the SCGA added Senior One Day events in 1979. In 2006, a total of 4,646 golfers participated in 74 one day events. USGA Qualifiers - As an arm of the USGA, the SCGA conducts the qualifiers for the major USGA championships. Special Events - The Palmetto Cup determines
the bragging rights between the 18 best SCGA Amateurs and
the best 18 SCPGA professionals. Also, the Junior
Challenge Matches pit the best eight SCGA juniors against
a comparable team from Georgia. |
