Finals Are Set - Defending Champs Move On

The finals are set in the 2009 SCGA Four Ball Championship with Defending Champions, Walter Todd and Chip Whitt taking on the College of Charleston Assistant Coach David Kite and one of his players, Ross Tooley.

In the quarterfinal matches, Chip Whitt and Walter Todd defeated the tough and experienced team of Jarrett Grimes and Chris Mitchell 2 & 1. Todd needed a lengthy par putt and a Mitchell miss to close out the match on 17. Robert Godfrey and Kevin Sheriff came back from a 1 down deficit after 12 to win 2 & 1. David Kite and Ross Tooley needed all 18 holes to beat out their opponents Taylor Hough and Austin Page 1 up. Jeremy Revis and Michael Sims had a 5 up advantage after 10 in their match with Matt Grandy and Will Dennis, but were taken all the way to hole 17 before advancing 2 & 1.

In a fast paced semifinal match between both groups Whitt and Todd birdied hole 12 from off the green to get to square and then made pars on 14 and 17 to win their match against Godfrey and Sheriff 2 & 1. In the second match of the afternoon, both Kite and Tooley and Revis and Sims traded holes back and forth before a Kite par on 17 and a birdie on 18 gave the duo a 2 up win.

The final 18 hole match will be played on Sunday starting at 8.00 on #1 at Furman University Golf Course.

The 2009 SCGA Four Ball Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 46th Annual event is being played on the 6,786 yard, par 72 golf course at Furman University Golf Course in Greenville. The Four Ball Championship began with a field of 55 teams battling for 31 qualifying positions for the Match Play portion.
