Culler & Lightsey Take Medalist Honors

Baxter Culler and Jamie Lightsey shot a second round score of 66 and a two day total of 131 to claim the medalist honors in the SCGA Four Ball Championship at Furman University Golf Club.

Starting play in a steady rain, the Hartsville and Fort Mill tandem combined for six birdies and the rest pars to shoot nines of 33-33 for a six under par 66 score. The highlight of the round came on a three hole run between 14 and 16 where the team made three birdies in a row. The two day score of 131 gives the recently graduated USC Upstate golf teammates the second seed heading into Match Play.

First round leaders Bryan Newton and Patrick Wilson shot a second round score of 68 for a two day total of 132 to finish as the third seed.

Exactly 31 teams finished the stroke play portion of the event at one under par – 143 to make it into Match Play. Defending Champions, Walter Todd and Chip Whitt, will automatically receive the #1 seed when play begins on Friday.

The 2009 SCGA Four Ball Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 46th Annual event is being played on the 6,786 yard, par 72 golf course at Furman University Golf Course in Greenville. The Four Ball Championship began with a field of 55 teams battling for 31 qualifying positions for the Match Play portion of the event which begins Friday at 8.00 a.m. off of #’s 1 & 10 tees.
