SCGA Four Ball Championship
Musgrove Mill Golf Club
Clinton, SC
June 2-6, 2010
Coggins and Williams are Victorious
Brandon Coggins and Brad Williams of Gaffney took a 2 & 1 victory over Will
Dennis and Matt Grandy in the Four Ball Championship to claim their first major
SCGA title.
After trading birdies and both teams having an advantage at a certain point in
the match, Coggins and Williams found themselves all square at the turn. The duo
took a two up lead after eleven holes when Dennis and Grandy could do no better
than bogey on the par four tenth and eleventh holes. That lead however was short
lived as Grandy came back with a birdie on the par three twelfth hole and a
winning par on the fourteenth to pull back to even. The Gaffney team was
undaunted though and the 23 year old Williams made birdie on the fifteenth hole
and the 21 year old Coggins made birdie on the sixteenth to go back up by two.
Needing a birdie on the tough par three seventeenth hole Grandy missed an eight
foot putt to push the match further and gave the young team their 2 & 1 win.
The 2010 SCGA Four Ball Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted
by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 47th Annual event was played on the
6,852 yard, par 72 golf course at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, SC.
