Two Tied for Lead after Round One

After the first round of the SCGA Senior Championship, former Champion Bill Palmer and Hilton Head resident Kevin Arnold are tied after opening rounds of three under par 69.  Defending Champion, Bill Smunk is one back at two under par.

Palmer, the 2007 Senior Champion, played the front nine in one under par making eight pars and one birdie on the 175 yard par three 7^th hole.  The Bluffton resident turned to the back and made birdies on holes 10, 15 & 17 with the lone bogey of the day coming on the tough par three 16^th hole.  Kevin Arnold, who plays out of the Old South Golf Links, started the day with a birdie on the 1^st hole and ended it with a birdie on the par five 18^th hole.  Four birdies and three bogies in between put the 57 year old tied at the top of the leader board.

2009 Champion, Bill Smunk from Kingstree is one shot behind at two under 70 and his brother John Smunk of Port Royal is alone at 71.

The 2010 SCGA Senior Championship is being played on the par 72 - 6,594 yard Oldfield Club layout in Okatie, SC. The field consists of 116 players over the age of 55 and will be cut to the low 60 and ties after the first two days of play. The Senior Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 52^nd year of existence.
