Burgess & Hammersla Three Peat

For the third year in a row, Jimmy Burgess and Bob Hammersla have captured the SCGA’s Senior Four Ball Championship. This title did not come as easy as the previous two, as the duo needed a par on the first playoff hole to defeat Tommy Ford and Charlie Swanson at The Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island, SC. The Mt. Pleasant team of Charlie Swanson and Tommy Ford shot the low round of the tournament with a six under par 65 and had to wait to see the outcome.

Playing in the next to last group, Columbia’s Jimmy Burgess and Greenville’s Bob Hammersla made five birdies and only one bogey on the round to shoot a four under par 67. The par on the par five 18th hole however may have been the score of the day. After Burgess was forced to hit his third shot from the green side pond, Bob Hammersla made a pressure packed 10 foot putt for the tie score of 137. Playing the 391 yard par four 1st hole, Burgess missed a six foot putt for birdie, but still managed to claim the title after Swanson and Ford could only manage a bogey five.

In the First Flight Mike Mahoney of Greeleyville and Joel Stoudenmire of Greer shot a final round 67 for a two shot victory over Monty Blanchard and Gene Wetmore. Rick Dresel and Jon Evans from Goose Creek and Hollywood took the Second Flight by three shots with a total score of 144.

The 2010 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship was played on the par 71 – 6,400 yard Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island, S.C. The field consisted of 60 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
