Amateurs Take the Cup
The SCGA team of top amateurs throughout the state managed to continue their
stellar play and capture the 2011 Palmetto Cup Matches with a point total of
13.5 to 4.5. Playing the final round in a modified alternate shot format, the
amateurs captured 5 of the 9 matches and halved one.
The annual battle between the state's top amateur golfers and the top SC PGA
Chapter Pros, the Palmetto Cup Matches are in their 30th year of existence. The
2011 event is being contested at the recently renovated Florence Country Club.
To date there have been 29 Palmetto Cup Matches - This marks the 8th straight
victory for the amateurs who now hold a 15-13-1 edge in the series. In 1997,
the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.
