Players Battle Elements In Final Round
A wet and windy 19th Annual Partners Championship greeted the
field on day two. The Championship Division was contested at Spring Valley
Country Club. Kevin Hester (Blythewood) and Dan Sullivan (Columbia), who were
tied for the lead at 13 under par, carded five birdies and a bogey to shoot four
under 68 and earn the 2011 SCGA Partners Championship title by a stroke. Hester
and Sullivan won the Tournament Division at this same championship in 2010.
Rick Cloninger (Fort Mill) and Todd White (Moore), who had a share of the first round lead, came in tied for second with Stan Sill (Spartanburg) and Jeff Stephens (Ware Shoals) at 16 under par for the two day event. Defending champions, Brent and Justin Roof finished six strokes off the lead at 133 overall.
The Tournament Division tested their skills at The Members Club – Woodcreek
Course and saw Andy Gianoukas (Charleston) and Brian Lott (Summerville) take the
over title with a two day total of 133. Mike Wiland (Aiken) and Ron Schroder
(Aiken) finished one shot behind at 134.
The Championship and Tournament Divisions, each
comprised of 54 teams were divided into three flights for Sunday’s play heading
to their respective courses.
The 2011 SCGA Partners Championship was played over two golf courses, the par 72
– 6,665 yard Spring Valley CC course in Columbia, S.C and the par 72- 6,686 yard
Woodcreek course at The Members Club in Elgin. The field consisted of 108
two-man teams split into two different Divisions based on handicap, the
Championship Division and the Tournament Division. Each division is playing a
Captains Choice format the first day and a Best Ball format the second while
alternating courses each day. The Partners Championship is one of 19 Major
Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
