Page and Pope Go Low at Opening Round of Super Senior Four-Ball

The team of Roger Page (Duncan) & Tim Pope (Spartanburg) stand atop the leaderboard after opening the first round of the SCGA Super Senior Four-Ball Championship with a with nine under par round of 63. Page and Pope are looking for their second Super Senior Four-Ball title after winning the event in 2019. The upstate duo leads by three strokes heading into the Final Round of the 2021 SCGA Super Senior Four-Ball Championship that is being held at The Legends at Parris Island in Parris Island, SC.

As blue skies and a slight breeze whipped across The Legends Golf Course, Page and Pope seized momentum early in their round by accumulating eight birdies and one par on their opening front nine to card an eight under 27. After cooling down on the back nine by only providing two birdies, six pars, and one lone bogey for a back nine total of one under par 36, the duo still proved the team to beat by finishing with an opening round of 63. Right behind the leaders is the team of Thomas Eberhard (John Island) and Frank Robb (Johns Island) after finishing with a first round score of six under par 66. There is a two-way tie for third between the teams of Dennis Helms (N. Myrtle Beach) and Bob Edens (Columbia) along with Andy Congdon (Murrells Inlet) and John Long (Murrells Inlet) after both teams finished with a respectable round of 67.

In the Legends Division, there is a two-way tie atop the leaderboard as the teams of Brian Alchermes (Columbia) and Gene Spencer (Blythewood) along with Ron Callahan (Little Mountain) and Dave Williamson (Columbia) shot opening round scores of four under par 68.

The Final round will begin on Thursday with an 8:00 AM Single Tee Start.

The 2021 SCGA Super Senior Four-Ball Championship is being played at The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island which is located on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in Parris Island, SC. The starting field consists of 33 teams split into two divisions. The Championship Division and Legends Division is flighted based on Round One scores. The Championship Division consisting of players ages of 65-69, is playing to a yardage of 5,681 yards while the Legends Division consisting of players ages 70 and over, is playing to a yardage of 5,325 yards. The format for the two days of competition is Four-Ball Stroke Play.

The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, 59 one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events.
