Red Numbers Take Center Stage at Partners Championship

Greeted with chilling temperatures, round one of the 28th Annual Partners Championship was filled with red numbers as players competed across two courses. The Woodcreek Club and Spring Valley Country Club, host clubs of the event, provided just the test for players of all levels.

Getting an early edge on the field, Ryan Reynolds (Columbia) and Brandon Cemprola (Lugoff) jumped out early posting a 13-under par, 59 to take a three shot lead on the field. Firing a back nine 29, Reynolds and Cemprola carded 13 birdies in their opening round and surged to the top of the leaderboard.

The teams of Cody Clepper (West Ashley) and Allen Caldwell (Sumter), Kyle Bearden (Barnwell) and Walt Todd, Jr. (Laurens) and Josh Branyon (Honea Path) and Kevin Roberts (Chesnee) will look to add some heat to the leaders as they all sit three shot back heading into the final round after posting scores of 10-under par, 62. A drove of duos sit at nine under par awaiting their opportunity to overtake the leaders. The Championship Division will head to The Woodcreek Club for the final round of competition.

The Columbia tandem of Zach Schwab and Steve Paley will take a one shot lead into the final round as the Tournament Division will head to Spring Valley Country Club Sunday. Schwab and Paley posted an eight under par 64 that included eight birdies and 10 pars. Sitting just one shot back of the leaders are Austin Childers (Leesville) and Matt Glowacki (West Columbia) and the Simpsonville pair of Duane Barnes and Dennis Schwab who fired a seven under par 65 in their opening round.

The final round will be contested as a modified Texas Scramble format and will begin with at 9am. For detailed scoring, final round pairings and other tournament information – 28th SCGA Partners Championship.

The 2021 SCGA Partners Championship is being played at both Spring Valley Country Club and The Woodcreek Club. The field consists of 100 two-man teams playing Captains Choice in the first round and a Modified Texas Scramble in the final round. The Championship Division competed at Spring Valley Country Club on Day One and will play The Woodcreek Club on Day Two, vice versa for the Tournament Division. The Partners Championship is in its 28th year of existence and is a fundraiser for the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.

The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, 59 one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events. Other Member services offered include GHIN – the USGA Handicap Computation System, Golf Genius Tournament Management Software System and support, Rules of Golf and Handicap education, USGA Course/Slope Ratings and Course measuring, Amateur Status information, the Palmetto Golfer Magazine and the SC Golf Hall of Fame. The SCGA also houses the offices of the SC Junior Golf Foundation and SC Junior Golf Association in a combined effort to support junior golf and grow the game’s initiatives.
