McMillan and Sill Claim Victory at Forty Plus Finale                       

Josh McMillan (Boiling Springs) & Stan Sill (Spartanburg) claimed top honors at the SCGA’s  Forty Plus Series Finale event of 2020 that was contested over two days at the Daniel Island Club’s Beresford Creek Course, after the duo recorded a two day better ball total of twelve under par 132. There was a three-way tie for second place between the teams of Mike Hartin (Slater) & Jeremy Revis (Greenville), David Collins (Columbia) & John Obrien (Columbia), and Doug Cottingham (Hopkins) & Dan Sullivan (Columbia) after each team finished with respective two day gross totals of nine under par 135.

In the Tournament Net Division, Andy Balao (Summerville) & Hank Sieling (Summerville) finished the event with a net total of thirteen under par 131 to win the division. The teams of Bobby Ream (Greenville) & Joe Tucker (Lyman) along with Brian Kennedy (Woodruff) & Scott Smith (Spartanburg) finished in a two-way tie for second after finishing with a two-day net total of eleven under par 133.

In the Senior Gross Division, Eddie Hargett (Blythewood) and Fred Teale (Mount Pleasant) captured the victory after a final round score of 68 and a tournament gross total of eleven under par 133. Two teams tied for second after finishing just three shots behind the leaders with tournament totals of 136. Those teams included Bob Hoffman (Greenville) & Scott Kabas (Greenville) along with Tim Teaster (Cayce) & Holley Wallace (Columbia).   

In the Senior Net Division, Fred Hyde (Mount Pleasant) and Steve Broome (Daniel Island) finished atop the leaderboard with a two-day net total of thirteen under par 131.

The 40 Plus is a series of events conducted for golfers across South Carolina, over the age of 40. The Forty Plus Finale is a two-day event that was conducted on Monday and Tuesday at the Daniel Island Club in Daniel Island, SC.

The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, 59 one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events. Other Member services offered include GHIN – the USGA Handicap Computation System, Golf Genius Tournament Management Software System and support, Rules of Golf and Handicap education, USGA Course/Slope Ratings and Course measuring, Amateur Status information, the Palmetto Golfer Magazine and the SC Golf Hall of Fame. The SCGA also houses the offices of the SC Junior Golf Foundation and SC Junior Golf Association in a combined effort to support junior golf and grow the game’s initiatives.
