Good Weather Greets Players

For the second day in a row players were greeted with sunny skies and windy conditions in the 11th Annual Tournament of Champions held at The Tradition Club in Pawleys Island. Champions from all over the State came to compete in six different divisions over the 36 hole event.

The low score of the event came from the Club Champion Division with TJ Hines from Chesnee taking first place with a score of 142. In the Men’s Senior Club Division, Gary Shimmin of Okatie shot a final round score of 67 for a total of 139. The 2005 & 2006 Player of the Year, Steve Liebler of Irmo won the One Day Gross Division with a total of 144. Leesville resident RF Taylor won the One Day Senior Division by six shots with a total of 144. Sue Zankowski of Dataw Island held on for a one shot win in the Women’s Division. Bill Dean of Taylors won the One Day Net Division with a final net score of 140.

The 2006 SCGA~WSCGA Tournament of Champions was played on the par 72, Ron Garl designed Tradition Club in Pawleys Island, SC. The field consisted of 117 men and women playing in 6 separate divisions. The Tournament of Champions is one of 18 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 11th year of existence.
