June 21-23, 2022

The Final Round of the 64th Junior Championship is Set to be a Sullivan Showdown

FLORENCE, SC (June 22, 2022) – Round two results of the 64th State Junior Championship Presented by The Heritage Classic Foundation hosted by Florence Country Club on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Luke Sullivan of Columbia finished the day at seven-under par 135 overall to take the lead of the 64th Junior Championship. He carded two-under par 69 today and holds a one-shot lead going into the final round tomorrow.

“Today was a solid day,” said Sullivan. “I didn’t hit it great, but my putting saved me. I made six birdies and four bogeys, so I’ve got to clean up the bogeys tomorrow. I was at the top of the leaderboard going into the final hole last year and lost by one, so I want to get revenge on that and just come out here tomorrow and give myself opportunities. I’m excited to play with Rowan tomorrow, it’s kind of been a rivalry the past two years of the State Junior so it’s going to be fun.”

Defending Champion, Rowan Sullivan of Charleston, fired a second-round score of six-under par 65 to sit second heading into tomorrow’s final round. Overall, he is six-under par 136 for the tournament.

“Today was a great round,” Sullivan said. “I took it low on the front nine and then just tried to stay constant, keep the momentum going and not give any shots away. If I could replicate my putting today, tomorrow, I believe I could win. It’ll be fun to run it back again and play with Luke, he’ll have just as much motivation as anybody, and it’ll be fun to go at it with the other guys playing the best.”

Mitchell McNeill of North Augusta and Mason Kucia of Indian Land each finished the day at five-under par 137 overall to sit tied for third.

The cut line fell at nine-over with 72 players advancing to the final round.

The final round of the 64th SCGA Junior Championship Presented by the Heritage Classic Foundation begins tomorrow at 8:00 A.M. off #1 and #10.
