Christian Sease Rallies To Claim SCGA Mid-Amateur Title

Greenville, S.C. – Despite heading into the final round of the 41st SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship with a six-shot deficit, Christian Sease (Greenville) would rally to finish with a final round eight under par 64 and tournament total of 15 under par 201 to claim the title of 2021 SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion.

Days before the 2021 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Green Valley Country Club, Christian Sease (Greenville) was competing in the 2021 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. After falling in the quarterfinals, Sease would make his way back to Greenville, SC to compete in the state Mid-Amateur Championship, despite his exhaustion from playing over 140 holes of golf just a few days prior. After an opening even par round of 72 at the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, Sease would plug along in the second round by firing a seven under par 65 to put himself six shots off of the leader heading into the final round.

Sease would have play error free but aggressive golf in the final round in order to make a charge for the title. As second round leader Jeremy Revis (Greenville), Walt Todd, Jr. (Greenville), and JD Lehman (Greenville) continued to play great golf by providing their own under par rounds, Sease would provide the most explosive final round of all with one eagle, six birdies, eleven pars, and most importantly a bogey free final round 64 to claim the title by one stroke over Revis after Revis finished with a tournament total of 202. Todd, Jr. would finish alone in third place with a tournament total of 203 followed by Lehman in fourth with a total of 204. First round leader Chad Siefert (Greenville) would finish in fifth with a total of 205.

Sease would state about his final round, “The game plan was to go out and do the same thing and just give myself a bunch of birdie opportunities and hit it well with my irons especially, and I putted really well. I got off to a really hot start, I think I was six under through eight and started those six back and six under through eight got me back there really quick, then just made a couple on the back nine to get me over the edge. It was a tremendous week for me and I’m just blessed to finally get one of these trophies”.

The field was cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes for the final round of the championship. Sixty-one players made the cut at seven over par or better.
