Musgrove Mill Wins Trescott Championship

The team of Yancey Johnson, Walter Todd, Sr., and Walt Todd, Jr., representing Musgrove Mill Golf Club are the winners of the 37th Trescott Championship. The trio finished at a combined four over par 217 after 18 holes. The Mid Carolina Club finished in second place after a combined score of 219.

In the Pro-Am portion of the event, the Mid Carolina Club team, accompanied by golf professional Rohan Allwood fired a twelve under par 130 in the two best balls of four format. There was a two-way tie for second between the teams of Southern Oaks Golf Club and Musgrove Mill Golf Club after both teams finished with ten under par best balls of 132.

The Trescott Championship, named after the former long time SCGA Secretary George C. Trescott, is a unique Club Championship where three amateur members from a club combine their aggregate score from each hole to compete for the Trescott Cup.

During the course of play, a Pro-Am is also conducted with the three amateurs and their Club Professional using the best two gross balls per hole.

The 2021 Trescott Championship was conducted on the par 72 ~ 6,703 yard Thornblade Club. The Championship began with 23 teams consisting of a Club Professional and three amateurs.  The combined scores of the three amateurs are used to determine the team score for the Trescott Championship while the two best balls of the four players are used to determine the Pro-Am score.  The Trescott Championship is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 37th year of existence.

The SCGA, founded in 1929, is the governing body for amateur golf in South Carolina. As a non-profit organization, the SCGA’s purpose is to promote, preserve and serve the game of golf. Made up of more than 270 member clubs and more than 50,000 individual members, the SCGA annually conducts 21 SCGA statewide championships, 59 one-day contests, eight USGA qualifiers, seven 40-plus tournaments and six special events. Other Member services offered include GHIN – the USGA Handicap Computation System, Golf Genius Tournament Management Software System and support, Rules of Golf and Handicap education, USGA Course/Slope Ratings and Course measuring, Amateur Status information, the Palmetto Golfer Magazine and the SC Golf Hall of Fame. The SCGA also houses the offices of the SC Junior Golf Foundation and SC Junior Golf Association in a combined effort to support junior golf and grow the game’s initiatives.
