Macolly and Talley Claim Third Lefty-Righty Championship

Starting the day two shots off the lead, the team of Tyler Macolly and Matt Talley recorded a second-round better ball score of nine under par 63 to capture the 42^nd SCGA Lefty-Righty Championship. A two-day total of thirteen under par 131 edged out first-round leaders Daniel Ezelle and Jeremy Revis by one shot. The righthander of the pair, Macolly, reeled off four birdies and an eagle on the team’s last five holes to clinch the victory. Ezelle and Revis also finished strong in their second round, recording two birdies and an eagle – however a bogey at the par four 14^th hole proved to be the difference maker as the pair fell just shy of forcing a playoff. This is Tyler Macolly and Matt Talley’s third Lefty-Righty championship, also claiming the title in 2011 and 2014.

In Lefthanders competition, multi-time winner Brent Roof held onto his first-round lead, recording a second-round score of one over par 73 for a two-day total of one over par 145. Last year’s champion, Stan Sill, and runner-up, Cally Bell finished tied for second place, just one shot back at two over par 146.

In Senior Lefty-Righty competition, Rich Weston and Steve Horton held onto their first-round lead and took home a second consecutive championship with a two-day total of eleven under par 133. The pair were consistent on their weekend play, pairing a final round 67 to go with their first round 66. The team of Harry Filyaw and Johnny Jackson, who started the day two shots back of the leaders, were unable to catch their competitors, but played well and duplicated their first round 68 for a two-day total of 136.

In Senior Lefthanders competition, reigning SCGA Senior champion and first-round leader Rich Weston claimed the top prize, also for the second year in a row, with a two-day total of one under par 143. Weston followed up his opening round 70 with a one over par 73 in the final round. Harry Filyaw finished just two shots behind Weston after recording an even par 72 on Sunday for a two-day total of one over par 145.

The 2018 SCGA Lefty-Righty / Lefthanders Championship is one of 21 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 42^nd Annual event was played on the 6,375 yard, par 72 golf course at Lake Marion Golf Course in Santee, SC.
