Steady Play Propels Cobb to Winners Circle
Rick Cobb was able to hold off two time defending champion Joe Hackler to capture the 11th Annual Harry Wilson Super Senior Championship played at Florence Country Club in Florence, South Carolina.
After bogies on three of his first five holes Cobb (Taylors) was able to right the ship making birdies on holes six and eight to close out his front nine. A birdie and a bogey on the inward side capped off his one over par round of 72. Defending champion Joe Hackler (Myrtle Beach) matched two bogies with an eagle on his front nine but three bogies and a birdie on the back left him one shot behind Cobb at days end.
In the Legends Division, 2013 Super Senior Champion Mike Weiner (Kiawah Island) had an up and down day with four birdies, a bogey, and a triple bogey for his even par round of 71. The former champion was able to hold off a second round charge by Steve Pachol (Columbia) to capture the Legends Division Title.
The Super Senior Championship consists of two divisions. The Championship division (Age 65-69) was split into three flights by first round scores: Wilson Flight (72-77), Second Flight (78-81), and Third Flight (83 & Above). The Legends Division (Age 70 & Over) was split into three flights by first round scores: Orr Flight (72-78), Second Flight (79-83), and Third Flight (84 & Above).

The 2017 SCGA Super Senior Championship was conducted on the par 71 Florence Country Club course in Florence, SC. The course played at 5,950 yards for the Championship Division and 5,478 yards for the Legends Division. The field consisted of 108 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The Super Senior is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 11th year of existence.
