41st Four Ball Championship

Padgett & Gillespie Cruise to Victory

The team of Gett Padgett and Gavin Gillespie defeated Eddie Mirmow and Matthew Bryant 4&3 to win the 41st Annual SCGA Four Ball Championship.

Mirmow and Bryant got of to a fast start making birdie of the par 4 first and taking a one up lead in the final match. Padgett made a par on the second hole to put the match all square. After a bogey by Mirmow and Bryant on the par 4 fifth Padgett and Gillespie took a one up lead. Both teams halved the remaining holes on the front side giving Padgett and Gillespie a 1 up lead at the turn.

On the back a 25 foot birdie putt on hole #11 by Gillespie gave the team a two up lead. On the next hole Padgett continued the teams strong play, sinking a seven foot birdie on the par 3 pushing the lead to 3 holes. Both teams made birdie on the treacherous par 4 thirteenth. Gillespie drained an unbelievable 58 foot birdie putt on hole 14 stretching the lead to four holes. After two pars on hole 15 the team of Mirmow and Bryant could do nothing more then take their hats off and shake hands with Padgett and Gillespie. The 2004 champions had won the match with a final of 4&3.

The top 31 teams after two days of four ball stroke play qualified for the match play portion of the Four Ball Championship at a score of one under par, 141. After two rounds of match play on Friday, the quarterfinals and semifinals were contested Saturday morning and afternoon. The final 18-hole match was played Sunday morning.


Fifty-six teams started the competition playing the par 71 - 6,500 yard Country Club of Orangeburg layout. The 41st Annual Four Ball Championship is one of 17 major events that the South Carolina Golf Association conducts throughout the year.
