Gabriele and Oweida Birdie Their Way to Victory

Anthony Gabriele and Phillip Oweida made a total of seven birdies in 15 holes to beat Trey Taylor and Cabrick Waters 4&3 in the Final Match of the SCGA Four Ball Championship at the Country Club of Lexington.

With the early week weather delay, the Semifinals were played on Sunday morning. Out first were Gabriele and Oweida against Bryce Howell and Josh Lorenzetti. Gabriele and Oweida found themselves down two after three holes, but started their long rally and eventually won 1up on the final hole with a birdie. Taylor and Waters also found themselves down four to Jackson Moore and Henry Smart after seven holes but turned things around making four birdies and an eagle coming in to send the match to extra holes. On the first playoff hole, Trey Taylor made birdie to advance his team to the Finals.

In the Finals, Gabriele and Oweida, College of Charleston golfers, started the final match making birdie on the first hole and never trailed throughout the afternoon. After a Trey Taylor birdie on the par three 4th hole, the match was square and both teams had to wait out a 1.5 hour rain delay before resuming play. Once back on the course, it was the Anthony Gabriele show. The 19 year Charleston resident birdied five of the next nine holes to put the team dormie going into the 15th hole. After both teams struggled on the par five, they each finished with a bogey to have the hole and give the young duo their first SCGA Title.

The 52nd Annual Four Ball Championship was played on the 6,663 yard, par 72 golf course at The Country Club of Lexington in Lexington, SC. The field began with 41 teams competing for 32 Match Play spots. The 2014 Champions, Mike Hartin and Corey Taylor were not able to defend their title this year.
