16th Annual Senior Four-Ball Championship
Burgess & Hammersla Repeat
Jimmy Burgess and Bob Hammersla came back from a one shot deficit to successfully defend their Senior Four Ball Championship crown at Houndslake Country Club. The duo defeated five other teams by one shot with a two day total of six under par 138.
Burgess and Hammersla, from Columbia and Greenville, teamed to shoot nines of 34 – 36 to overcome first round leaders Johnny Dennis and Frank Wrenn to win their second consecutive Senior Four Ball title. The tandem had four birdies and two bogies, including a bogey on the final hole, to secure their victory over a host of competitive teams. The Champions won the 2008 event at Wachesaw Plantation with a score of 131.
In the first flight, Tim McBride and Scott Scwharz blistered the Houndslake course to shoot a final round 68 and win by four shots. Don King and Rick Robbins won the Second Flight with a two day score of 146 and three shot margin over the second place team.
The 2009 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship was played on the par 72 – 6,433 yard Houndslake Country Club in Aiken, S.C. The field consisted of 61 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
