2nd Annual Super Senior Championship
Barber Goes Low for Victory
Bill Barber shot the tournament’s only under par round of 68 to win the SCGA’s 2nd Annual Super Senior Championship with a total of 142. Paul Davies finished one stroke back at 143.
Barber had a shaky start making bogey on the very first hole, but quickly steadied the ship making three birdies and fourteen pars over the rest of the day for his two under par round of 68. The Pawley’s Island resident finished at 142 for his first major SCGA individual title.
Mt. Pleasant’s Dick Horne made a strong come back shooting 72 for a two day finish of 152 to win the Championship “B” Flight by seven over Ron Tubbs of Okatie.
The 2nd Annual SCGA Super Senior Championship was played on the par 70 – 5,800 yard Sunset Country Club in Sumter, S.C. The event was created to honor the 41 years of service by Anderson’s Harry Wilson to the SCGA. The field consisted of 60 individuals over the age of 65 years old playing a Stroke play format conducted over thirty six holes. The Super Senior Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
