11th Annual Senior Four-Ball Championship

Emory and Brooks Go Low for Victory

Mike Emory and Buddy Brooks shot a tournament low, final round seven under par 65 for a two day total of 134 and a two shot victory over first round leaders Johnny Dennis and Bob Hammersla.

Mike Emory, a Lake Wylie native, started the day off making birdie on the par five 1st hole then stepped back and watched his partner, Buddy Brooks from Cheraw, take it the rest of the way. Brooks made birdies on holes 3 and 5 to make the turn at 33. He then proceeded to birdie the par five 10th, the par three 11th, the par four 12 and 14th holes, and the par five 17th. The lone blemish on the round was a bogey on the last hole that left the team seven under par for the day.

First round leaders John Dennis and Bob Hammersla, both from Greenville, started in blaze playing the front nine in four under par, but couldn’t manage enough birdies on the back to overcome the Champions. Defending Champions, Vic Hannon and Bob Stringer, from Camden and Blythewood, shot nines of 35-35 to take 3rd place at 138.

In other flights, Bobby Gause of Lexington and Dan Pierce of Columbia shot a72 – 70 to take first place in the First Flight by one shot over two other teams. The Second Flight was won by LeRoy Rabon of Irmo and Gene Spencer of Blythewood, after a final round score of 69. There was a tie in the Third Flight between the teams of David Henderson and Robert Shelor from Spartanburg and Jack Sweatt from Rock Hill and Billy Houck of Florence at 150.

The 2004 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship was played on the par 72, Forest Lake Club in Columbia, SC. The field consisted of 64 two man teams playing Four Ball Stroke Play. The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 17 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 11th year of existence.
