Musgrove Mill Team Survives

The Musgrove Mill team of Tim Pope, Mike Gravley and Walter Todd battled through severe winds and tough greens to win the 2007 SCGA Trescott Championship with a score of 238. Greenville Country Club finished one stroke back at 239.

To put into perspective of how hard the conditions were, the winning total of 238 was 23 shots higher than the 2006 winning total of one under par. This year’s Trescott champions, based on the aggregate score of the three amateurs, consisted of an 81 from Walter Todd, an 80 from Tim Pope and a 77 from Mike Gravley. This victory marked the fourth time in six years that the Musgrove Mill team has captured the Championship. Their other titles came in 2002, 2003 & 2005. The low individual score for the day came from James Rowland out of the The Golf Club at Star Fort with a two over par 74.

The Pro-Am portion of the event, which counts the two low gross balls per hole for all four players, was captured by the Country Club of Lexington. The Lexington team was led by Head Professional Will Branham and shot a total of three under par 141. Defending Pro-Am Champions, Holly Tree Country Club finished one shot back at 142.

The 2007 SCGA Trescott Championship was played on the par 72, Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, SC. The field consisted of 32 teams playing in both the Trescott Championship and the Pro-Am. The Trescott Championship is one of 18 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 25th year of existence.
